If the host&#8217;s available swap space isn&#8217;t at lest 50% of the VM&#8217;s memory it spits out a warning:<\/p>\n<p><center><a data-rokbox href=\"wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/VMWare-Player-too-little-swap.png\" data-rokbox-album=\"p2476\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/VMWare-Player-too-little-swap.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>VMWare Workstation Player showing error message due to too little swap being available<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately the GUI does not offer an option to change this behavior and disable memory overcommitment. However this can be done by adding <strong><em>prefvmx.minVmMemPct = &#8220;100&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> to <em>\/etc\/vmware\/config<\/em>:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: plain; highlight: [2]; title: \/etc\/vmware\/config; notranslate\" title=\"\/etc\/vmware\/config\">\r\n&#x5B;...]\r\nprefvmx.minVmMemPct = &quot;100&quot;\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>Note that this option has to be set globally in <em>\/etc\/vmware\/config<\/em> and does not work in a virtual machine&#8217;s <em>*.vmx<\/em> file or on a per-user basis in <em>~\/.vmware\/preferences<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VMware&#8217;s Workstation Player checks how much swap space is available before starting up any virtual machine.
